atoti and its plugins are available on PyPI and can thus be installed with package managers such as uv:
or pip:

ActiveViam repository

Installing Atoti Python SDK packages with PyPI is the easiest way but they can also be downloaded from ActiveViam’s repository by configuring https://activeviam.jfrog.io/artifactory/api/pypi/pypi/simple/ as an extra-index-url.

Client and server parts

atoti and its plugins have up to two parts:
  • a server part, starting and running the Atoti session.
  • a client part, providing the Python API to interact with the session.
For instance, with the DirectQuery JDBC plugin: atoti installs both parts and its extras install both parts of the corresponding plugins. For instance, atoti[directquery-jdbc] installs the four packages above. Some plugins, such as spring-boot-admin, have no Python API and thus only have a server part. The parts can also be installed separately: see client only, server only, and custom JDK.

Client only

Since atoti-client extras only install the client part of plugins, the session to connect to must provide the server part of these plugins.
Or, with the JupyterLab extension extra:

Server only

Conversely, atoti-server and its extras only contain the server part of Atoti and its plugins: everything needed to start a session, without any client dependency. This is useful, for instance, in a Docker image packaging the server side of a project, to which users then connect with atoti-client:

Custom JDK

Installing atoti will install jdk4py: a Python package embedding a JDK including all the Java modules required to run Atoti. Projects willing to use their own JDK can skip the installation of jdk4py:
Plugins are then installed through the extras of both packages:
This requires the JAVA_HOME environment variable to point to a JDK >=25.

Offline

Tools such as pip download can be used to facilitate offline installation.
