Limits as KPIs
Once a limit has been created, it appears as a key performance indicator (KPI) in the cube. It monitors the location(s) it is scoped to and displays its status using one of three icons.
KPI Drawer
KPIs alone may be insufficient to tell users why a limit is in its current status. The KPI Drawer can be used to give more context about the status.
Atoti Limits adds a small indicator to all KPI status cells it creates. It is important to note that KPIs not created through Atoti Limits won’t have this functionality. You can find the indicators within the data visualization tabular widgets within your Atoti dashboards. This is the small black triangle located within the KPI status cells, which can be seen in the image below.
Clicking on a KPI status cell opens the KPI Drawer, which helps you investigate the status of the KPI. The KPI Drawer provides detailed information about both the KPI and the limit used to evaluate the targeted location within the cube. Depending on the limit’s workflow, the drawer may also let you create temporary limits without having to navigate away from your dashboard.
The KPI Drawer provides a range of information and functionality, broken down into distinct sections:
Associated limit
This section displays information about the specific limit used to monitor the KPI you are investigating. It provides details like:
- The name of the measure being monitored by the limit
- The type of the limit
- The limit value
- The start and end dates of the limit
- The scope of the limit.
KPI information
This section gives you details about the KPI itself, including its name, status, and the scope of the KPI.
The information from the two sections above provides context to understand why a limit was breached.
Adding temporary limits
If you are logged in as a user with permissions to create temporary limits, you set one up here.
If the defined workflow allows for it, the bottom half of the drawer displays a form that allows you to create temporary limits directly from the drawer. It has two modes:
Simple mode
This is the default setting. Fill out the form with a target value and end date for the temporary limit, and (subject to the defined workflow) a temporary limit is created to monitor the location you have selected when opening up the KPI Drawer.
Advanced mode
Toggle the Advanced switch to switch to this mode. It provides more control, allowing you to manually define the scope of the temporary limit by selecting for example, a specific desk or other parameters through a form. This is similar to the process of creating a limit with advanced scopes within the limits screens.
Further investigation
If you still require a more comprehensive look into why a KPI cell has a certain status, you may want to use the View Limit button found at the bottom of the drawer. Clicking this button navigates you to the Limits Viewer screen and show you the exact limit used to derive the KPI status.
