# How to choose a data update workflow

> Risk Portal data update workflows for standard Excel position imports, individual trade changes, and market-data environments, with links to the access requirements and verification for each task.

Position changes and market-data changes use separate workflows.

## What needs checking before an update?

Check the required permissions and potential effects before submitting changes.
An Excel report export is separate from the standard position-import template.
Creating a market-data environment does not load market observations.

Availability depends on the organization's integration.
