# How to export a report view to Excel

> Excel exports influenced by the current report table's filters, sorting, and grouping, with asynchronous download steps and checks for report-dependent differences in columns, expansion, and worksheets

Applies to report views displaying **Export to Excel** above the results table.

**Export to Excel** applies the current table's filters, sorting, and grouping to an Excel export.
The workbook is prepared asynchronously and delivered through **Notification Center**.

## What is required before exporting a view?

* An accessible report with **Export to Excel** available.
* A fully loaded results table.
* The required filters, sorting, and grouping already selected.

Read-only report views can omit the export controls.
Reports containing Bloomberg EIDs prohibit this export.

## How to prepare and export the view

1. Open the required report.
2. Wait for the table and its saved presentation to finish loading.
3. Apply the required [column filters](../edit-a-report/customize-a-report), if any.
4. Set the required sort order.
5. Arrange the required [grouping fields](../edit-a-report/group-results).
6. Expand groups to the required level.
7. Select **Export to Excel**.

Verify that **Notification Center** opens with the corresponding request.
The **File request sent!** message confirms acceptance, not a completed workbook.

8. Wait for **Download** on the corresponding notification.
9. Select **Download**.
10. Check the browser's download list for the `.xlsx` file.
11. Open the workbook.

Verify its report context, filters, row hierarchy, and column selection before using the exported values.
Check the **Parameters** worksheet for the included report details.

## How closely does the workbook match the grid?

The export uses submitted view settings to retrieve report data.
It can include matching rows beyond those currently loaded in the browser.
Selecting cells does not limit the export to that selection.

Column visibility, column order, and group expansion can behave differently across reports.
Some exports use the report's configured columns instead of the current browser column selection.
Some use an expansion depth rather than reproducing every individually opened branch.

A report containing multiple tables can include additional worksheets using their default presentation.
Check the actual workbook when an exact set of columns, groups, or worksheets is required.

Use [Dump to Excel](./dump-to-excel) for the report's configured export without the current browser view settings.

## What can prevent the export?

| Observation | Next step |
| - | - |
| A message says the report view or table is still loading. | Wait for loading to finish before trying again. |
| Export is prohibited for Bloomberg EIDs. | Review the displayed restriction with the configured support contact. |
| The request fails. | Read the returned message before submitting another request. |
| No file appears after selecting **Download**. | Check browser downloads and the notification message. Request a fresh link if the previous link expired. |

See [Notification Center](./notifications) for request progress and download controls.
