# How to export report data to Excel

> Workbook downloads using Dump to Excel through Notification Center or directly from historical P&L reports within VaR, with report output settings and filters that differ from Export to Excel

Applies to report views displaying **Dump to Excel** above the results table.

Export availability depends on the report viewer and the account's permissions.
Check the workbook's report context and exported fields before using or distributing the results.

## What is required before exporting?

* Access to the required report and its data.
* An available **Dump to Excel** control.
* Permission to download the report's contents.

The control can be absent from read-only report views.
Reports containing Bloomberg EIDs prohibit export through this action.

## How to request and download the workbook

1. Open the required report.

2. Check the report identity and dates above the results.

3. Select **Dump to Excel**.

4. Follow the applicable download path:
   * **Standard risk and P\&L reports:** **Notification Center** opens after an accepted request.
The **File request sent!** message confirms submission; the workbook is still being prepared.
Locate the matching notification, wait for **Download**, then select **Download**.
   * **Historical P\&L reports within VaR:** the workbook downloads automatically after preparation.
These exports do not require **Notification Center**.

5. Check the browser's download list for the `.xlsx` file.

6. Open the workbook.

Verify the report context in the **Parameters** worksheet.
Check the exported worksheets and fields before using or distributing the file.
See [Notification Center](./notifications) for refresh, temporary download links, and read-state behavior.

## Which data does the workbook contain?

The export uses authorized report data and the configured Excel output.
Browser-grid filters, sorting, column visibility, and grouping are not submitted by **Dump to Excel**.
Historical P\&L exports still apply report filters and drill-down filters selected in the parent VaR report.

For risk reports, an Excel export configuration can select columns, apply filters, group data, or exclude error rows.
Consequently, this action does not guarantee every raw row or every report field appears in the workbook.

Use [Export to Excel](./export-to-excel) when the current table's filters, sorting, and grouping should influence the export.

## What can prevent a download?

| Observation | Next step |
| - | - |
| The export control is absent. | Check the viewer and account access with the administrator. |
| Export is prohibited for Bloomberg EIDs. | Review the displayed restriction with the configured support contact. |
| The request displays an error. | Read the message before submitting another request. |
| **Download** has not appeared in a notification. | Refresh **Notification Center** and inspect the request message. Submission is not completion. |
| A download link has expired. | Select **Download** again to request a fresh link, if the export remains available. |

For unresolved failures, provide the report details and displayed message to the configured support contact.
